For instance, if to speak about one of the most outstanding grandes ecoles in the France, the competition is as follows: 12,000 candidates only for the 400 available places.

The number of the universities and grandes ecoles is not enough for the students who want to receive a higher education. That is why the number  of specialized small institutions are presented for the attention of those who want to receive education.

One more distinctive feature of the education in France is that the different research works are made not within the universities, but within the specially founded centers such as CNRS, which stands for French National Centre for Scientific Research and INSERM, which stands for National Institute of Health and Medical Research). It makes all the researches more serious and extended.
