Paris Sorbonne University is the university located in Paris, France. It is an inheritor of the former University of Paris’ Arts and Sciences Faculties.  First, the University of Paris was established in 12th century; however, in 1970 it was reorganized into 13 autonomous universities.

The name of the University is given to it in honor of Robert de Sorbon, a man who founded the collegiate institution (College de Sorbone) in 1257. However, the university is considered to be much more older, and in fact, it   was never completely centered in Sorbon.

After the reformation of the University in 1971, five faculties of the former Universite de Paris were reformed into 13 universities. The following Universities still keep the memories of the University of Sorbonne in their names: Paris-Sorbonne University, The new Sorbonne, and Pantheon-Sorbonne.

In 2006, United Arab Emirates and the Paris-Sorbonne University have signed an agreement of the establishing new University, which goes under the title   University-Paris-Sorbonne-Abu Dhabi. This event is the first one in its origin n the history of the public higher education in France, as earlier, there were no Universities of France presented abroad.

Nowadays, Paris Sorbonne University is ranked 29 in terms of Arts and Humanities. Main centers of teaching are Central Sorbonne Building, Clignancourt, Malesherbes, Michelet, Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Campus, Championnet.
